About

Tiziana Stomeo since February 2011 has an appointment as Senior Technician, responsible for the set-up, development and management of the Clean Room Laboratory, at the Center of Bio-molecular Nanotechnologies of IIT@UniLe, Lecce. She has also been appointed Assistant of the Prevention and Protection Service (ASPP) for the management of procedures related to health and safety at work.

She has graduated in 2002 in Electronic Engineering at the Politecnico di Bari (Italy), submitting a thesis on the “Fabrication of 2D Photonic Crystal Waveguides”. In 2006 she received the Ph.D. in Innovative Materials and Technologies from the National Nanotechnology Laboratory of CNR-Istituto di Nanoscienze and the Institute of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (ISUFI), Università del Salento (Italy), after submitting a thesis on the “Development of a 2D-Photonic Crystal technology for optical devices”.

Immediately after the completion of the PhD she got a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Microphotonic Research Group, University of St. Andrews (Scotland), where she was involved in the framework of the European FP6-IST project FUNFOX (Functional Photonic Crystal Devices for Metropolitan Optical Networks).

From July 2007 to January 2011 she was Researcher at NNL, where she was involved in the design and fabrication of photonic crystal-based devices for both bio- and telecommunications applications, metallic nanostructure for plasmonics and non linear effects, and high power devices (HEMT) based on GaN heterostructures. In November 2008 she was awarded by the Australian Academy Science as a successful recipient of the 2009-2010 Australia-Italy award and she spent three months (February-April 2009) as Visiting Researcher at the Microelectronic Research Group (MRG), University of Western Australia (UWA), working on both the fabrication of nitride-based devices and on the characterization of their electronic, electrical and optical properties.

She has a broad range of experimental experience in micro and nanotechnologies applied to nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, metallic nanostructures devoted to plasmonics and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). 

She developed several technological processes and protocols, gaining a huge experience on ultrahigh resolution electron beam and focused ion beam (FIB) lithographies. She also gained a strong experience in the dry etching techniques of semiconductor and organic materials by both standard Reactive Ion Etching (RIE) and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) systems.

Being also expert in the scanning probe based microscopy, she is involved in the morphological characterization of the micro- and nano-structures through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and compositional microanalysis through a FIB-embedded EDAX system.

She has published more than 90 articles in refereed journals and proceedings, she is the author and coauthor of two book chapters, she is co-inventor of 1 International patent and she has several oral and invited contributions to international conferences on nanotechnology and nanophotonics. She is also Referee of several scientific journals. She has been and is actually involved in several national and international projects and co-operations. She is an “Indipendent Expert”, acting as evaluator, in the evaluation of research proposals (FP7-ICT-2009-C-ICT-Information and Communication Technologies; H2020-FETOPEN-01-2016-2017 RIA)
